Description
Lost Then Found is a sequel to Coal Town Stories (2024). It describes the poverty, resilience, and unity of a small Appalachian coal mining town in Eastern Kentucky. The story traces the migration of immigrants who came to America in the 1920s.
Their journey from Great Britain, Ireland, and Scotland was arduous and life threatening.
The long and dangerous travel on ships was filled with starvation, sickness, injury, and death. The hardships and struggles were felt by all. Their only consolation was the reward of leaving the strife they came from and coming to a new land that offered work and better life.
Despite their positive outlook, they soon learned their vision was compromised. The coal mining jobs they sought were dangerous, backbreaking, and life threatening. Generations that followed were faced with the same hardships and struggles.
All was not lost. Individuals and families overcame poverty, developed resilience, and established a community bond that exists today.
